The current price of cotton is about 7 yuan per kilogram, but the high cotton price does not stabilize cotton production. The area of ​​cotton planting in Shandong, a big cotton producing province, has been declining year by year. Among them, cotton production once accounted for one-tenth of the country's Dezhou City, Shandong Province, this year, the area of ​​cotton is only about 155 million mu, a decrease of 32% over last year. The main reason is that the income of seed cotton is not as good as grain, which hurts the enthusiasm of cotton farmers. The farmer Wang Xiaoyun calculated for the reporter: “According to the current price of cotton, it is considered that growing cotton for less than a year results in more than 130 pieces of income per mu. Not only is the direct income of the cotton not only less than the grain, but also time-consuming and laborious. It took up a lot of time that could have been used for working."

Ma Junkai, deputy secretary-general of the Dezhou Cotton Association, said that in recent years, the price of cotton has fluctuate greatly, which has caused the farmers' income to fluctuate too much. If the purchase price of seed cotton is lower than 7.5 yuan per kilogram this year, it is uneconomical for farmers to grow cotton, and the area for cotton planting will decline next year. He suggested that the government introduce policies to mobilize the cultivation enthusiasm of cotton farmers and stabilize the cotton planting area: “The only cotton seed subsidies with 15 yuan per mu are seed subsidies, and there is a big gap compared to growing grain. We must increase the subsidies for cotton cultivation. In the long run, it is necessary to increase the scale of cotton planting.
