Chongqing corn skin weaving process into rural poverty alleviation characteristic industry
Fengdu County, located in Chongqing, has made significant progress in developing special industries aimed at rural poverty alleviation. Among these initiatives, the training program on corn husk weaving has played a crucial role. Many local farmers have enhanced their weaving skills and entrepreneurial capabilities, gradually stepping onto the path of poverty reduction and economic growth.
To further improve the quality of corn husk handicrafts, increase their market value, and boost the confidence and entrepreneurial spirit of poor farmers, Fengdu County organized an intermediate-level entrepreneurship training session for corn husk weaving. The opening ceremony was held at the Sunshine Vocational Skills Training School on October 17th, attended by officials from the County Poverty Alleviation Office and representatives from the vocational school.
A total of 60 participants, including enthusiasts from 15 counties and migrant workers who already possess basic knowledge of corn husk crafts, joined the 18-day training program. The curriculum is divided into two parts: theoretical learning and on-site observation. Topics include fundamental entrepreneurship concepts, team organization and management, the current status and future development of corn husk weaving, comprehensive techniques in weaving using corn husks, corn bran, and plant fibers, as well as practical production of items like flower baskets, mats, sandals, and marketing strategies for handicrafts.
The corn husk weaving industry in Fengdu has now become a unique and promising sector with strong market competitiveness and broad potential. Through these training programs, farmers' enthusiasm for starting businesses has never been higher, making this craft a vital part of rural poverty alleviation efforts in the county. With continued support and education, the industry is expected to grow even further, bringing more opportunities and prosperity to local communities.
